The Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue has announced an inquiry into extra charges levied by banks and telecom operators, responding to rising consumer complaints over unauthorized deductions and opaque service fees. A session is scheduled for April 1 at Parliament House, where representatives from both sectors will explain the rationale behind these charges.

Lawmakers will examine whether these fees comply with consumer protection laws and regulatory requirements. Telecom users, in particular, have raised concerns on social media about unauthorized deductions linked to value-added services. In response, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has directed operators to halt such practices without explicit consumer consent.

The committee will also review other key issues, including proposals for honorariums for medical staff at Parliament House, faculty salary concerns under the tenure track system, and Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) matters such as the classification of PCT heading 3921 and the pending implementation of a July 2025 presidential order.
