In a dramatic turn of events, Senator Faisal Vawda claimed he had received death threats from officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) after raising concerns over the procurement of 1,010 vehicles worth Rs. 6 billion. The allegations were made during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Revenue.
Senator Vawda alleged that FBR officials not only threatened his life but also warned of destroying his business in retaliation for his criticism of the procurement process. He further claimed that the contract for the vehicles was awarded without following due process, and a company that offered a lower bid faced severe repercussions, including a raid on its office by FBR officials.
The committee chairman, Senator Saleem Mandviwalla, supported Vawda’s claims, stating that he too had received similar threats.
Vawda also accused FBR officials of misusing official vehicles for personal purposes and expressed concerns that the same misuse would occur with the 1,010 vehicles being procured.
Responding to the allegations, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, who was present at the meeting, condemned the alleged death threats and suggested referring the matter to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for further investigation. He assured the committee that the procurement process would not proceed until all concerns were fully addressed and the committee was satisfied.
