The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has approved a reduction of one rupee per unit in electricity tariffs for all consumers in Pakistan.

All electricity consumers will receive a relief of Rs. 1 per unit in their electricity bills. This relief will be provided from the revenue generated through a levy on captive power plants. A levy has been imposed on the gas usage by captive power plants.

The government is also working on a relief package for electricity consumers. The package will be announced after approval from the IMF, as per IMF officials.

This decision by the IMF is expected to provide some relief to electricity consumers in Pakistan by reducing their electricity bills. The government’s work on a further relief package also provides hope for the consumers.
