The Punjab Highway Department has approved a plan to digitize all manual toll plazas across the province in an effort to curb overcharging, reduce corruption, and bring greater transparency to toll tax collection.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Provincial Minister for Communications and Works Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth, where officials reviewed the proposed digitalization strategy in detail. The meeting was attended by Secretary C&W Sohail Ashraf and other senior department officials, both in person and online.

According to the minister, 41 toll plazas under the department will be digitized in a phased manner. The cash-based collection system will also be upgraded with a modern digital monitoring dashboard to improve oversight and accountability.

Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bherth emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against overcharging, stating that strict action will be taken against violators, including the registration of legal cases where required.

The initiative will also introduce M-Tag systems at all toll plazas, which are expected to streamline traffic flow and make toll collection faster, more efficient, and transparent.
