Punjab has experienced 73% more rainfall than usual this monsoon season, highlighting the growing impact of climate change and the increasing risk of natural disasters, according to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab.

PDMA Punjab Director General Irfan Ali Kathiya revealed on Tuesday that the heavy rains have resulted in 165 deaths across the province so far. Most fatalities were caused by lightning strikes, electrocution, or drowning.

Kathiya warned that 4 to 5 additional rain spells are expected in the coming weeks, raising concerns about further damage. “Emergency plans are already in place, and the Punjab government will provide support to the families of those who lost their lives as per policy,” he assured.

The heavy rainfall has significantly increased the risk of urban flooding in several areas, including Lahore. Local authorities have been instructed to remain on high alert to manage potential emergencies.

The public has been urged to exercise caution during the rains, particularly by avoiding flood-prone and low-lying areas. Authorities have emphasized the importance of staying safe and following official guidelines to minimize risks.
