The Punjab government has introduced an emergency airlift drone service to support rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas. The state-of-the-art drone, capable of lifting and transporting individuals weighing up to 200 kilograms, marks a significant step in modernizing disaster response efforts.

Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi directed the immediate deployment of the drone to Multan to assist in rescuing people stranded by rising floodwaters. Prior to its deployment, the Civil Defense successfully conducted test flights over the Ravi River in Lahore.

Dr. Qazi also announced plans to purchase 10 additional airlift drones, making Punjab the first province in Pakistan to establish such a service. “This drone service will allow us to rescue people from areas that are otherwise too dangerous or inaccessible,” he said, adding that the Home Department is equipping Civil Defense teams with advanced technology and international-standard training to enhance emergency response capabilities.

Highlighting the role of Civil Defense, Dr. Qazi noted their critical contributions during floods and disasters, including saving lives, relocating victims and livestock, and ensuring the supply of food, shelter, and medicine. He also revealed that over 4,000 citizens registered as Civil Defense volunteers this week through the government’s online portal.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Maryam Khan reported progress in de-watering operations at Mohlanwal Theme Park, which was heavily impacted by flooding. She stated that 17 de-watering machines, five cranes, and temporary drains are being used to clear floodwater from low-lying areas.

“More than half of the floodwater has been removed so far,” she said during a site visit on the Chief Minister’s instructions.
