The Punjab government is preparing to launch a large-scale subsidy program aimed at providing relief to motorcycle users, under which riders would receive a Rs100 per litre petrol subsidy, according to official sources.
The provincial government has requested Rs24 billion from the Finance Department to fund the initiative. Sources said a summary has already been forwarded to the Chief Minister for approval, after which the Finance Department will release the allocated funds.
Officials estimate that around 1.25 crore motorcyclists across Punjab could benefit from the program, with an additional calculation suggesting a possible monthly subsidy of Rs2,000 per rider depending on usage patterns.
According to Excise Department sources, the proposed plan involves direct fuel support for registered bikers, with over 8 million motorcyclists already enrolled in the registration process.
Government data also shows that nearly 50 million motorcycles have been registered in Punjab since 1980, highlighting the scale of two-wheeler usage across the province.
Authorities say the subsidy program will be formally launched once the registration process is completed and final approval is granted. The initiative is being positioned as a major relief measure aimed at easing transport costs for daily commuters affected by rising fuel prices.
