Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced an ambitious target of issuing 40,000 housing loans under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” initiative by May 2025. During a recent meeting on the program, she approved a budget of Rs. 62 billion and directed officials to expedite the loan distribution process to meet the target.
The chief minister also called for a review of a proposal to increase the maximum loan amount from Rs. 1.5 million to Rs. 2 million, aiming to provide greater financial support to applicants. Officials briefed her on the progress of the initiative, revealing that approximately 5,000 individuals across Punjab have already accessed loans, with over 4,200 homes nearing completion.
The program includes a partnership with the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and the Housing and Urban Development Department to provide ready-made homes for low-income families. This collaboration is expected to further support the government’s efforts to address housing shortages in the province.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated her commitment to ensuring housing for all, stating, “Every citizen deserves their own home. Housing is a fundamental right, and I want every homeless person to have a roof over their head.” The initiative is a key part of her government’s broader agenda to improve living standards and provide affordable housing for the people of Punjab.
