The Punjab Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) on Thursday thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotics through the Indus River, seizing 43 kilograms of charas valued at approximately Rs 13 million.

A CNF spokesperson said actionable intelligence suggested that a shipment of drugs was being moved from Swabi district toward Punjab using boats along the river route. Acting swiftly on the information, CNF teams launched a targeted operation and intercepted the consignment before it could reach its destination.

The seized narcotics were taken into official custody in line with legal procedures. Authorities have initiated further inquiries to trace and arrest other suspects linked to the trafficking operation.

The spokesperson noted that the successful interception underscores the Punjab government’s strict stance against drug trafficking and highlights CNF’s ongoing efforts to keep surveillance over key routes commonly used by smugglers.
