In a recent meeting of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), several critical issues related to financial mismanagement, unutilized funds, and illegal practices were brought to light. The committee reviewed audit objections and directed relevant authorities to take immediate action to address these concerns.

The committee expressed serious concerns over the non-utilization of Rs. 27.5 million from the EDF (Economic Development Fund) for the past five years. The chairman emphasized the need for accountability and demanded a detailed report on the current status of the project. An investigation into the matter has been ordered to determine the reasons behind the negligence and to hold responsible parties accountable.

The PAC reviewed an audit objection regarding the significant increase of Rs. 89.72 billion in interest on a loan taken by the Trading Corporation. The committee directed the Ministry of Commerce to collaborate with the Ministry of Finance to resolve the issue within one month. The matter has raised questions about financial oversight and the management of public funds.

The committee also examined an audit objection related to the sale of rice mills plants during the fiscal year 2023-24. It was revealed that the sale was conducted without a proper market survey, raising concerns about transparency and potential financial losses. The PAC instructed the Department of Audit and Accounts (DAC) to conduct a re-audit of the sale parameters to ensure compliance with regulations.

An audit objection regarding the illegal recruitment of security guards in the Pakistan Reinsurance Company was also discussed. The committee expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of adherence to recruitment protocols and demanded an inquiry report within one month. The PAC stressed the need for strict compliance with legal and procedural requirements in all hiring processes.

The PAC reviewed an audit objection concerning encroachments on State Life Insurance plots in Lahore. Officials from State Life Insurance reported that a cemetery has been established on the encroached land, highlighting the severity of the issue. The committee ordered an inquiry and directed the submission of a detailed report within one month. Additionally, the audit of illegal appointments within State Life Insurance was referred to the Para Establishment Division for further investigation.

During the meeting, the PAC chairman took a stern stance by expelling a representative from the Ministry of Law for undisclosed reasons. The Secretary of Law and Justice has been summoned to appear at the next committee meeting to address the matter. The meeting was ultimately adjourned due to a lack of quorum, leaving several issues pending for further discussion.
