The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued an important advisory for mobile users across the country, warning that SIM cards registered against expired or canceled Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) may be blocked if records are not updated in time.
According to the regulator, mobile subscribers must ensure their SIM cards remain linked to valid CNICs to avoid disruption in services. The PTA cautioned that failure to renew CNIC details could result in suspension of mobile connectivity, affecting both calls and data services.
The authority also warned that SIM cards registered in the names of deceased individuals could lead to legal action. Users have been advised to immediately regularize such connections to remain compliant with telecom regulations.
In addition, the PTA directed subscribers to verify their identity records with the National Database and Registration Authority to ensure their information is accurate and up to date. Officials said the move is part of broader efforts to strengthen system integrity and prevent misuse of mobile connections.
The regulator noted that these steps are aimed at improving security, reducing fraud risks, and ensuring a more reliable telecom environment nationwide.
The PTA urged users to promptly update their CNIC details to avoid service interruptions and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a secure and dependable telecommunications network across Pakistan.
