The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to the public regarding fraudulent messages impersonating courier services, which aim to deceive users into sharing verification codes. These scams are being carried out through SMS and messaging apps, targeting unsuspecting consumers.
According to a statement issued by PTA, the fraudulent messages mislead users by asking them to enter or share verification codes, which can then be misused for unauthorized access to personal accounts and services. PTA clarified that no legitimate courier company requires customers to provide such codes for parcel delivery or related services.
The authority stressed that sharing any verification code received via SMS or messaging apps can result in serious security risks, including financial loss or unauthorized access to personal data. PTA has urged consumers to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious messages or scams through official channels.
In its advisory, PTA reiterated its commitment to ensuring the digital safety of the public by implementing measures to detect and block fraudulent activities. It also emphasized the need for users to verify the authenticity of messages before taking any action, particularly when sensitive information is requested.
PTA further advised consumers to remain cautious when interacting with unknown numbers or links received via SMS and messaging platforms. The authority is working closely with telecom operators and digital platforms to curb such fraudulent schemes and safeguard users against cybercrime.
