Pakistan plans to tighten control over incoming international calls as part of a push to increase government revenue, strengthen telecom security, and improve transparency, official sources say.
Currently, international calls are routed through Long Distance International (LDI) operators. The Ministry of IT has tasked the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) with developing a regulatory framework for these calls.
Sources told ProPakistani that consultations with telecom companies and relevant stakeholders are ongoing. Once complete, the new regulations are expected to be formally approved.
The upcoming framework aims to enforce stricter oversight of international call traffic, enhance revenue collection, and establish stronger security protocols. Local telecom operators and LDI companies will have expanded responsibilities under the new system, with PTA actively monitoring compliance.
Experts say this move could curb misuse of international call channels and create a more accountable system while boosting the government’s financial intake from telecom services.
