Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a clarification in response to the fake news circulating in the media about the potential closure of ATMs. PTA clarified that there is currently no non-availability/ closure of LDI networks that may potentially impact IT or the financial sector including ATM networks.

“Please note that operations of the expired LDI licensees are not suspended or shut down,” added the PTA statement.

News has been circulating that the non-renewal of LDI licenses poses a direct threat to these networks. According to the document, it was estimated that 50% of mobile traffic could be disrupted, leading to numerous mobile towers going offline. Furthermore, around 10% of internet traffic and 40% of ATM banking services could be affected, alongside disruptions in corporate internet services.

However, the PTA has issued a clarification regarding it and has denied this claim.
