The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned mobile users about unauthorized Value Added Services (VAS) causing unexpected deductions from prepaid and postpaid balances. Consumers are advised to regularly monitor their balances and active subscriptions to avoid unwanted charges.

VAS typically include caller tunes, daily SMS or internet bundles, missed call alerts, mobile games, horoscope updates, quizzes, and infotainment alerts. PTA emphasized that activation requires explicit consent via a One-Time Password (OTP) or USSD code. Any service activated without these is considered unauthorized.

Users noticing unexplained deductions should immediately contact their telecom operator and obtain a complaint reference number. If unresolved, complaints can be escalated to PTA through the Complaint Management System (CMS) on pta.gov.pk or via the CMS mobile app. PTA reaffirmed its commitment to protecting consumer rights and ensuring transparent telecom practices.
