In a recent meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, officials reviewed security preparations for Muharram-ul-Haram, emphasizing the need for collaboration with provincial authorities. The decision to suspend mobile phone or internet services during this period will be made in consultation with the provinces to ensure national security.

The meeting, which included briefings from inspectors general of police and interior secretaries from various regions, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), focused on maintaining peace during the religious month. Naqvi highlighted that strict action would be taken against individuals spreading religious hatred on social media platforms.

He assured that all necessary measures related to Muharram security would be implemented through mutual consultation, with the federal government pledging full support to uphold peace. The enforcement of a code of conduct during Muharram was also discussed, with plans to monitor processions and gatherings using modern technology.

Key participants in the meeting included the Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, the Interior Secretary, and the Acting Chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). Senior law enforcement officials, including the Commandant of the Frontier Constabulary and DIG Islamabad Police, attended both in person and via video link.

In a related event, the Ulema-Mashaykh Peace Conference was held in Islamabad under the auspices of the Council of Islamic Ideology. Chaired by Dr. Raghib Naeemi, the conference brought together religious scholars from various schools of thought. A joint declaration issued at the conference emphasized the importance of loyalty to the Constitution and the right to assembly, belief, and worship.

The declaration condemned armed action and violence against the State, urging citizens to support Pakistan’s armed forces and avoid sectarian biases. It asserted the State’s right to take strict action against those spreading hatred and warned against coercive imposition of beliefs. Additionally, it called for measures against extremism and sectarianism, stressing respect for religious figures and prohibiting the declaration of others as disbelievers (takfir).
