Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to urgently improve the supply of petrol and diesel while instructing all relevant institutions to remain fully prepared for any emergency situation amid changing regional dynamics.

Presiding over a high-level meeting, the prime minister emphasized the need to strengthen Pakistan’s petroleum import system and ensure smooth and uninterrupted fuel availability across the country. He called on Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik to take more proactive steps to streamline the supply chain.

Officials informed the meeting that current petroleum reserves are sufficient to meet national demand. At the same time, authorities are maintaining strict oversight of fuel stocks and distribution to quickly identify and address any irregularities.

The Intelligence Bureau has been assigned to monitor the implementation of fuel-saving and austerity measures and will submit regular compliance reports.

The briefing highlighted that steps taken to reduce fuel usage in government departments are beginning to show positive results, contributing to cost savings and helping ease the burden on public finances. Cabinet members have also voluntarily decided not to draw salaries as part of these austerity efforts.

Officials further assured the prime minister that adequate stocks of essential medicines are available to meet the country’s needs.

To support continuity of operations, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has arranged enhanced connectivity to facilitate e-office systems and enable remote working within government institutions if required.

The meeting was attended by senior cabinet members, including Ishaq Dar and Muhammad Aurangzeb, along with other top officials.
