Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir called on all sides to exercise restraint and maintain the ceasefire, welcoming the recent reduction in regional tensions and stressing the importance of sustaining diplomatic momentum toward peace.

The message came during a high-level meeting between the prime minister and the army chief at the Prime Minister’s House, where both leaders reviewed Pakistan’s ongoing mediation efforts aimed at easing tensions in the region. According to an official statement, the leadership expressed satisfaction over the gradual de-escalation achieved so far and emphasized the need for continued calm and responsible conduct by all parties.

They reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating dialogue and supporting peaceful engagement as the only viable path toward lasting stability. The leadership also reaffirmed that Islamabad would continue providing full diplomatic support and necessary facilitation to stakeholders involved in negotiations.

Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high-level consultative session attended by senior civil and military leadership to discuss developments related to upcoming negotiations in Islamabad. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, the foreign secretary, and senior military officials participated in the meeting.

Participants noted that Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting ceasefire diplomacy had been widely appreciated internationally. Sources said the participants acknowledged the efforts of Field Marshal Asim Munir for his role in advancing mediation initiatives and contributing to regional de-escalation.

During the discussions, the leadership reviewed preparations for diplomatic engagements expected to take place in Islamabad and reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolve to continue assisting all sides in achieving a peaceful settlement through dialogue.

Pakistan recently facilitated a two-week ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, with high-level talks scheduled in Islamabad on Saturday. A senior United States delegation led by Vice President JD Vance is expected to arrive alongside a high-ranking Iranian delegation, underscoring Pakistan’s emerging role as a key mediator in regional peace efforts.
