Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established a special cabinet committee to make key decisions on agricultural commodities.
The committee, chaired by the prime minister, will include eight members including the Deputy Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Planning Minister, and Ministers for Economic Affairs, National Food Security, Industries and Production, and Commerce.
The committee will review production estimates for major crops, including wheat, rice, cotton, sugarcane, edible oil, and corn. Coordination at the national level will ensure sufficient cultivation areas, while federal and provincial agricultural research systems will be integrated to boost production. Efforts will also focus on ensuring the timely availability of agricultural inputs at reasonable prices.
Chief ministers or their representatives may be invited to attend committee meetings for special participation.
