The Pakistani rupee (PKR) continued its strong performance on Monday, closing higher against the US Dollar (USD) for the 120th consecutive day.

During the session, the PKR also recorded gains against most major global currencies. The rupee closed at Rs279.30 per USD, registering a modest gain of one paisa.

According to traders, Pakistan has benefitted from the ongoing oil crisis in the Strait of Hormuz, which has severely impacted top economies. While Iran has restricted over 90 percent of traffic through the strait, countries like Pakistan are still able to safely transport oil, boosting confidence in the PKR’s continued appreciation.

The rupee gained Rs1.32 against the British Pound (GBP) and 55 paisas against the Australian Dollar (AUD), while recording minor losses of eight paisas against the Euro (EUR). Against the Canadian Dollar (CAD), the PKR strengthened by 68 paisas.

The currency remained stable against the UAE Dirham (AED) and Saudi Riyal (SAR), closing almost unchanged in Monday’s trading session.
