The Pakistani rupee (PKR) ended Friday slightly stronger against the United States Dollar, marking its 119th consecutive session of appreciation against the greenback.
By the close of trading, the rupee settled at 279.31 per dollar, gaining one paisa during the day.
The local currency also posted gains against several other major currencies in the interbank market, supported by fluctuations in global markets amid growing geopolitical uncertainty.
Performance Against Other Currencies
The rupee recorded modest gains against Gulf currencies, appreciating by two paisas against the United Arab Emirates Dirham and posting a slight improvement against the Saudi Riyal.
More significant gains were seen against European and Western currencies. The rupee strengthened by Rs3.78 against the British Pound Sterling and Rs2.22 against the Euro.
The local currency also advanced Rs3.03 against the Australian Dollar and Rs1.15 against the Canadian Dollar during the session.
Meanwhile, smaller gains were recorded against Asian currencies, with the rupee improving Rs0.16 against the Malaysian Ringgit and Rs0.11 against the Chinese Yuan.
The broad-based appreciation allowed the rupee to close the week on a positive note, as currency markets remained sensitive to global economic developments and geopolitical tensions.
