Millions of motorcycle riders continue to shoulder soaring fuel costs as the government’s promised petrol subsidy remains unavailable. Despite official announcements of Rs. 2,000 monthly relief for up to 20 litres—equivalent to a Rs. 100 per litre discount—no mechanism has been rolled out, leaving low-income riders without immediate assistance.

Sources told ProPakistani that authorities have yet to finalize how the subsidy will be delivered. Options under consideration include a mobile app or an SMS-based verification system, but no official framework or timeline has been shared.

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has not provided updates, while reports indicate that testing of the subsidy system is ongoing and technical challenges are being addressed. One requirement under review is that the motorcycle must be registered in the rider’s own name, with verification tied to official registration card details.

The delay comes as petrol prices remain at Rs. 458.40 per litre following recent hikes, further straining daily commuters and delivery riders already grappling with rising expenses.
