The textile sector in Pakistan recorded a significant growth of 9.7% in exports during the first half (July-December) of the fiscal year 2024-25, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Textile exports reached $9.09 billion during this period, compared to $8.29 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
In December 2024 alone, textile exports increased by 5.7% year-on-year (YoY), rising to $1.48 billion from $1.4 billion in December 2023. On a month-on-month (MoM) basis, textile exports also saw a slight increase of 1.3%, up from $1.46 billion in November 2024.
Overall Trade Performance
While the textile sector showed robust growth, overall exports remained largely stagnant in December 2024, posting a marginal 1% increase. Exports stood at $2.841 billion in December 2024, compared to $2.882 billion in the same month of the previous fiscal year.
On the other hand, imports surged by 14% in December 2024, reaching $5.285 billion compared to $4.635 billion in December 2023. This marks the highest monthly import figure in over two years.
H1 Trade Figures
For the first half of FY 2024-25, overall exports increased by 11%, reaching $16.561 billion, while imports rose by 6%, totaling $27.733 billion during the same period.
