The Pakistani rupee continued its upward trajectory on Monday, closing stronger against the US dollar for the 110th consecutive session, even as geopolitical tensions intensified following the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei last week.
During the interbank session, the rupee appreciated by one paisa against the dollar, settling at 279.46.
The local currency also posted gains against most other major international currencies. It strengthened against the UAE dirham and the Saudi riyal, while recording notable advances of Rs3.06 against the British pound and Rs2.47 against the euro.
The rupee further appreciated by Rs1.67 against the Australian dollar and Rs0.69 versus the Malaysian ringgit. It gained Rs0.16 against the Chinese yuan and Rs0.0039 against the UAE dirham, while adding Rs0.068 against the Saudi riyal.
However, the rupee edged lower against the Canadian dollar, slipping by Rs0.20 during the session.
Overall, the domestic currency maintained its steady performance despite heightened regional uncertainty, reflecting continued stability in the foreign exchange market.
