Renowned Pakistani mountaineer Murad Sadpara has tragically passed away during an expedition to the 8,047-meter-high Broad Peak in Skardu.
The news was confirmed by Ayaz Shigri, Vice President of the Alpine Club.
Sadpara sustained serious injuries at Camp 1 after being struck on the head by a falling stone. Despite waiting for rescuers, he succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive.
The Pakistan Army had deployed four expert mountaineers to the base camp to assist in the rescue efforts.
Shigri stated that the team would now focus on bringing Murad Sadpara’s body back to the base camp.
Murad played a key role in the ‘K2 Clean-up Expedition’ and was instrumental in recovering the body of Hassan Shigri last year.
Meanwhile, Pakistani climber Naila Kiani had made a public appeal on social media for the Pakistan Army to dispatch a team from Skardu to the Broad Peak crampon point in an effort to rescue Ali Sadpara.
Murad Sadpara’s passing is a significant loss to the mountaineering community, marking the end of a distinguished career that included multiple summits of some of the world’s highest peaks.
