Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Tuesday that Pakistan is set to sign agreements worth approximately $2 billion with an incoming Saudi delegation later this month. The delegation is expected to arrive ahead of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) meeting, which Pakistan will host from October 15-16.
During a federal cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the importance of strengthening trade and economic ties with SCO member states. He also reflected on past political disruptions, specifically criticizing the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its 2014 sit-in, which led to the cancellation of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to Islamabad, impacting Pakistan’s economic relations.
“We will not allow it to be repeated. We will not tolerate it at any rate, at any cost. This is my promise. I will not let it happen,” Sharif asserted, underscoring his commitment to maintaining political stability.
In light of a recent attack in Karachi, the Prime Minister assured the Chinese ambassador of enhanced security measures for Chinese nationals residing in Pakistan. He pledged that no effort would be spared to ensure their safety, reinforcing Pakistan’s commitment to its international partners.
