The Ministry of IT and Telecom has announced a detailed timeline for the launch of 5G services in Pakistan, with a planned rollout for telecom operators in June 2025. According to official documents presented in Parliament, telecom companies will begin launching 5G services across the country starting July 2025.

The roadmap includes key milestones to ensure a smooth rollout. A consultant’s recommendations to the Spectrum Advisory Committee will be submitted by February 2025. In March, the committee will finalize critical policy reforms, including spectrum pricing, trading conditions, and taxation.

The federal government is expected to approve a policy directive in April, paving the way for the spectrum band auction in May. The auction will include the 3500 MHz, 2600 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 700 MHz bands, which are essential for 5G deployment.

While the timeline is ambitious, industry experts have raised concerns about potential delays. The approval of the PTCL-Telenor merger by the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) is seen as a critical factor that could impact the 5G rollout schedule.

The Ministry of IT and Telecom remains optimistic about meeting the June 2025 target, which is expected to revolutionize Pakistan’s digital landscape by enabling faster connectivity, improved services, and enhanced economic opportunities.
