Pakistan is set to unveil its Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy by the end of November, as announced by the Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain. This policy is a significant step in promoting the adoption of electric vehicles across the nation, aligning with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision to expand EV usage in Pakistan.

The initiative is part of a broader strategy to support the EV sector, with the government allocating $4 billion to this cause. A portion of this funding will be directed towards subsidies for electric two-wheelers, aiming to make them more affordable for the general public.

Minister Hussain highlighted that local manufacturers are already producing electric two- and three-wheelers, with some three-wheelers being exported internationally. This development underscores Pakistan’s growing capabilities in the EV sector.

In a move to encourage academic excellence, the government will award 100 electric bikes to top-performing students across the country. This initiative not only rewards academic achievements but also promotes the use of environmentally friendly transportation.

To further support the growth of electric vehicles, the government plans to establish 40 charging stations along motorways and an additional 300 stations along highways and key locations. These efforts are expected to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles and reduce the country’s carbon footprint.
