Pakistan is set to play a central role in ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving tensions surrounding the Iran conflict, international media reported on Friday.

Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, confirmed that indirect contacts have already taken place and that preparations for direct negotiations are underway, with Pakistan expected to serve as the host country in the near future.

The announcement follows confirmation by US envoy Steve Witkoff that Pakistan has transmitted a 15-point American peace proposal to Iran, highlighting Islamabad’s growing role as a diplomatic intermediary.

Wadephul made these remarks ahead of a meeting of G7 foreign ministers near Paris, which will also be attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The German diplomat expressed hope that the United States would clarify its strategy and objectives regarding the conflict during the discussions.

Meanwhile, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has recently raised concerns over the escalating costs of the war, despite previously supporting US and Israeli actions in the region.
