Pakistan has closed its airspace and suspended all flight operations across the country following a series of missile strikes by India on Pakistani territory, marking a dramatic escalation in tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors.
Aviation authorities issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) announcing the closure of Pakistani airspace for 48 hours. The move has led to the cancellation of more than 25 flights, disrupting routes to major international destinations including Qatar, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Riyadh.
Flight operations at Islamabad International Airport and Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport have been completely suspended until further notice, with numerous flights canceled or delayed. Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport is also experiencing widespread disruptions, with multiple cancellations and delays reported.
The airspace shutdown comes in the aftermath of Indian missile strikes targeting Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry condemned the attacks as “cowardly” and reaffirmed that Pakistan would respond at a time and place of its choosing.
