In a late-night announcement on Friday, the federal government of Pakistan raised the prices of high-speed diesel (HSD) and Motor Spirit (MS) petrol by Rs. 55 per litre.

As a result, petrol will now sell at Rs. 321.17 per litre, while diesel has been revised to Rs. 335.86 per litre.

The price hike was confirmed during a press briefing held by Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, and Federal Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik. The new rates took effect immediately on Saturday, March 6, 2026.

Officials cited rising global oil prices, fueled by escalating tensions in the Middle East, as a major factor behind the adjustment. Additionally, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had earlier urged Pakistan to pass on increasing petroleum costs directly to consumers and refrain from offering fuel subsidies.

This move comes just a week after the government had raised HSD prices to Rs. 280.86 per litre and MS petrol to Rs. 266.17 per litre, marking another significant surge in fuel costs for the public.
