Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PSX: PPL) has announced a significant increase in hydrocarbon production, reinforcing its commitment to the country’s energy security. The company has implemented a series of cost-efficient production enhancement strategies to counter the natural decline of its mature fields.

In a recent stock exchange filing, PPL detailed its approach, which includes rigless interventions, surface system optimization, and workovers. These initiatives have delivered substantial results at a fraction of the cost of drilling new wells.

From April to November 2024, PPL’s efforts have resulted in notable production gains, including approximately 17 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of natural gas, 400 barrels per day of oil/condensate, and 4 tonnes per day of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

Key milestones achieved through these initiatives include:

  • Optimization through Workovers: Enhanced gas output by 8.4 MMscfd through successful workovers on Sui-71 and Sui-73.
  • Surface Debottlenecking: Increased gas production by 7.1 MMscfd from the Sui and Gambat South Gas Fields by optimizing wellhead surface fittings and plant processing systems.
  • Artificial Lift System Enhancements: Delivered approximately 200 barrels per day of oil/condensate, 2 tonnes per day of LPG, and 0.5 MMscfd of gas through the installation and modification of artificial lift systems at Adhi-28, Adhi-29, and Adhi South-5.
  • Acid Wash and Wellbore Cleanout: Boosted production by approximately 200 barrels per day of oil/condensate, 2 tonnes per day of LPG, and 1.3 MMscfd of gas through acid wash treatments and scale removal at Adhi, Hala, and Sui Fields.

These initiatives highlight PPL’s dedication to enhancing indigenous hydrocarbon production cost-effectively, contributing significantly to bridging the energy demand-supply gap and conserving foreign exchange for the nation.
