Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Finance Minister Muzzammil Aslam lauded the federal government for its effective management of petroleum supplies, noting that Pakistan’s performance has been notably stronger than several neighboring countries.
The statement came during a high-level consultative session on petroleum prices and subsidy reforms, chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, at the Finance Division. The session was held under the guidance of the Honourable President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to review the current fuel situation and explore policy measures.
The Petroleum Division briefed participants on the present availability of petroleum products, confirming that fuel stocks remain stable and sufficient nationwide. The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication presented proposals for technological solutions aimed at implementing a targeted subsidy system, emphasizing transparency, efficiency, and accurate delivery of relief to eligible consumers.
Provincial leaders highlighted their perspectives. Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, praised uninterrupted fuel availability while encouraging behavioral measures to promote fuel conservation. Punjab Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stressed the importance of developing flexible policy options and ensuring that any reduction in international petroleum prices is passed on to consumers. Balochistan Minister Mir Shoaib Nosherwani also provided recommendations during the session.
The Finance Division highlighted that fiscal resources are limited, primarily drawn from petroleum levy revenues, and stressed that any relief measures must safeguard macroeconomic stability.
In his remarks, Senator Aurangzeb emphasized that the current situation should be leveraged as an opportunity to implement structural reforms. He highlighted the importance of data-driven decision-making in taxation and subsidy policies, promoting responsible consumption while maximizing benefits for the public without compromising fiscal prudence.
Participants agreed to fast-track the development of a targeted subsidy framework using advanced technological solutions and to ensure close coordination between federal and provincial authorities.
The meeting was attended by Chief Ministers and senior ministers from all provinces, federal ministers for Petroleum and IT, federal secretaries of Finance, Petroleum, IT & Telecommunication, chief secretaries, and senior officials including the Chairman of NADRA.
