The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather advisory warning of widespread rain, thunderstorms and strong winds across several parts of the country between April 12 and April 17.

According to the authority, a new weather system is expected to affect Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, bringing intermittent rainfall along with dust storms, lightning and gusty winds. Isolated areas may also witness hailstorms during the forecast period.

Rainfall is predicted in Islamabad and major cities of Punjab, including Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum, Chakwal, Gujrat, Sialkot, Lahore, Mianwali and Mandi Bahauddin, where changing weather conditions could disrupt daily routines and travel plans.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra and Abbottabad are expected to receive rain accompanied by thunderstorms. Other areas including Swabi, Charsadda, Mardan, Nowshera, Kohat, Karak, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan may also experience strong winds and scattered showers.

Northern mountainous regions are likely to see snowfall at higher elevations. Areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir — including Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Astore, Diamer, Ghizer, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli and Neelum Valley — may experience a mix of rain and snow during the coming week.

Meanwhile, Sindh and Balochistan are forecast to remain mostly hot and dry, with temperatures gradually rising. Karachi is expected to experience warm weather through Monday, though officials say humidity levels and sea breezes should prevent heatwave conditions.

The NDMA warned that strong winds, lightning strikes and hail could damage vulnerable structures, trees and electricity lines. Rainfall may also create slippery road conditions, while prolonged showers in mountainous areas could increase the risk of landslides and travel disruptions.

Authorities have advised citizens to limit unnecessary travel during severe weather, drive carefully, and follow official safety guidelines while avoiding exposed locations during storms.
