The federal government is finalizing a comprehensive strategy to address key areas of defense, trade, health, and energy in preparation for engagement with the incoming Trump administration. This was disclosed during a recent inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), according to a report by Business Recorder.
MoFA has instructed relevant ministries to urgently submit feedback and proposals to compile a detailed presentation for the new U.S. administration. The strategy aims to strengthen bilateral ties and address critical issues in these sectors.
Pakistan’s Ambassador to Washington has already initiated discussions with U.S. officials to schedule the third round of the Energy Security Dialogue, tentatively planned for mid-January. However, concerns were raised about holding the dialogue during the transition period, as the incoming administration may not honor agreements made by its predecessor.
The Energy Security Dialogue is expected to focus on critical issues, including the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, renewable energy projects, LNG infrastructure, and private-sector investment in Pakistan’s energy sector. Feedback from the Energy and Petroleum Divisions is awaited to finalize the schedule and ensure the dialogue aligns with Pakistan’s strategic goals.
