The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a fresh warning for more monsoon rains across the country, predicting scattered to heavy downpours with occasional gaps from July 11th through July 17th. The advisory, released by the National Weather Forecasting Centre, highlights the risk of flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding in several regions.
According to the PMD, a fresh westerly wave is expected to enter the country on July 13th, intensifying rainfall activity. Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, Balochistan, and Sindh are all on alert for rain-wind/thundershowers, with some areas bracing for “very heavy” falls.
The PMD specifically warns of possible flash floods in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galiyat, Manshera, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Buner, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Nowshera, Swabi, Mardan, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and hill torrents in D.G. Khan, Northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and parts of Balochistan from July 14th to 17th. Urban flooding is also a concern for low-lying areas of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Nowshera, and Peshawar.
Landslides and mudslides may disrupt travel in hilly areas, while heavy winds and lightning could damage weak structures, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels. The PMD urges farmers to plan their activities accordingly and advises the public and travelers to avoid unnecessary exposure in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have been told to remain on “ALERT” and take all necessary precautions to prevent any untoward incidents. For the latest updates, citizens are encouraged to visit the PMD website or use the Pak Weather app.
