Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing sector continued its steady pace in 2025, with 12.05 million handsets assembled locally during the first five months of the year, according to new data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). In contrast, commercial imports dropped sharply to just 0.76 million units, reflecting the ongoing shift toward local assembly.

Of the locally produced devices, 6.53 million were 2G handsets, while 5.52 million were smartphones. In comparison, Pakistan had assembled 31.38 million mobile phones throughout the entirety of 2024, with commercial imports standing at 1.71 million units for that year.

The PTA also noted that smartphones now make up 67 percent of all mobile devices operating on local networks, while 2G handsets account for the remaining 33 percent. The data highlights the continued growth in smartphone adoption as Pakistan’s digital ecosystem evolves.

Meanwhile, the telecom regulator reported that it received 10,241 consumer complaints against telecom and internet service providers in May 2025, of which 97.92 percent were successfully resolved.

Among mobile operators, Jazz recorded the highest number of complaints with 3,543, followed by Zong (2,724), Telenor (1,722), and Ufone (1,129). Despite the volume, resolution rates remained high: Jazz led with a 99.3 percent resolution rate, while Ufone resolved 97.4 percent of its cases.

The PTA also addressed 126 complaints related to basic telephony services, achieving an 89.7 percent resolution rate. Internet service providers received 695 complaints, with a 90.5 percent resolution rate, further indicating strong consumer service performance across the sector.
