Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted the significant potential for cooperation between Pakistan and Russia across various sectors. This statement came during his meeting with Valentina Matviyenko, the Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, held today.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif extended his best wishes to Russian President Vladimir Putin and invited him to visit Pakistan soon. The discussions focused on strengthening banking channels to promote trade and investment, as well as developing a comprehensive roadmap for economic collaboration between the two nations.
Prime Minister Sharif noted that recent visits by Russian leaders signal a positive trend in the strengthening of Pakistan-Russia relations. He expressed confidence that the upcoming Pakistan-Russia Joint Commission meeting in December will serve as a crucial opportunity to expand bilateral cooperation.
In a separate meeting with Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani, Matviyenko affirmed Russia’s commitment to increasing bilateral cooperation with Pakistan in diverse fields, including trade, investment, and diplomacy. The leaders discussed enhancing diplomatic, economic, commercial, and parliamentary relations between the two countries.
Matviyenko emphasized that Russia highly values its relationship with Pakistan and believes that promoting parliamentary relations will not only boost trade and investment but also foster closer ties between the peoples of both nations.
Senate Chairman Gillani expressed optimism that Matviyenko’s visit will invigorate Pakistan-Russia relations and contribute to regional peace, development, and prosperity. He also appreciated Russia’s support for Pakistan’s infrastructural development and advancements in the oil and gas sectors.
