Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, emphasized the importance of expanding halal meat exports to drive sustainable economic growth and development on Monday. Rana Tanveer Hussain revealed that discussions with Malaysia are underway, and if finalized, the agreement could help Pakistan’s halal meat exports reach $200 million within five years. He noted that this initiative would deepen bilateral relations and bolster Pakistan’s local export sector.

Speaking at a meeting focused on strategies to enhance halal meat exports, the minister highlighted ongoing government efforts to strengthen trade ties with Malaysia.

The minister underscored the potential for broader cooperation between Pakistan and Malaysia across various sectors, including trade, investment, information technology, energy, and agriculture, with a particular focus on the halal meat industry. He stressed that both countries stand to gain from enhanced economic collaboration.

Assuring commitment to quality, Tanveer Hussain stated that Pakistan is ready to export premium halal meat to Malaysia, adhering to the highest standards.

This development follows the recent visit of the Malaysian Prime Minister to Pakistan, during which both nations agreed on a halal meat export deal valued at $200 million. Pakistan currently ranks as Malaysia’s third-largest trading partner in South Asia.

The visit also saw discussions between the Pakistan-Malaysia Business Council (PMBC) and the Malaysia-Pakistan Business Council (MPBC) on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further strengthen cooperation in the halal trade sector.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Advisor to the Prime Minister on Industry Haroon Akhtar Khan.
