More than 400 buildings in Islamabad have been declared illegal for being constructed without approved building plans or official permission, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed the National Assembly of Pakistan in a written reply.

According to the minister, a total of 439 buildings, mostly in Zones I and II, were found to violate the Capital Development Authority’s building regulations.

He said notices and show-cause notices had been issued to all identified structures for breaching building laws, while the CDA has so far collected Rs. 931 million in fines from the illegal constructions.

Naqvi further informed the House that 152 buildings have already been sealed over violations of the relevant regulations.

Separately, the minister said the slaughterhouse operating in the Sihala area does not meet modern hygiene and environmental standards. The facility, built in 1960 on 14.75 acres and currently operating under the Islamabad Meat Board, is considered outdated.

He added that, on the directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the CDA has initiated work on a new modern slaughterhouse in Islamabad equipped with updated facilities to address public health and environmental concerns.
