OpenAI is preparing to add its artificial intelligence video generation tool Sora directly into ChatGPT, according to a report by The Information citing sources familiar with the plan.
The move is part of OpenAI’s broader strategy to expand its multimodal AI capabilities, allowing users to create not only text but also videos and other forms of media within the same platform. Sora competes with emerging text-to-video technologies being developed by major tech companies including Meta and Google, which is owned by Alphabet Inc..
While many current AI systems primarily focus on generating text, tools capable of producing videos and images are increasingly viewed as the next major step in the evolution of artificial intelligence. These technologies could significantly broaden the use of AI in areas such as digital media, entertainment, and content production.
Earlier Launch of Sora
OpenAI first introduced Sora as a standalone application in September 2025. The platform enables users to create AI-generated videos from text prompts and share them through social media-style feeds. The system can generate a wide range of visual content, including videos inspired by existing copyrighted material.
Standalone App Expected to Continue
According to the report, OpenAI intends to keep Sora operating as an independent application even after its video-generation capabilities are integrated into ChatGPT.
Reuters said it was unable to independently confirm the report. OpenAI also did not immediately respond to requests for comment outside regular business hours.
