The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully revived a heavy oil well in its Northern Region field, significantly increasing production capacity. According to a filing on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company’s efforts have raised cumulative production from the field’s heavy oil wells from 1,500 barrels per day (BPD) to 2,500 BPD.
The revival initiative was carried out at the Rajian Oil Field, located in Gujar Khan E.L., District Chakwal. This strategic move is part of OGDCL’s broader plan to enhance production capabilities and optimize output from the field. The company has outlined an ambitious program involving 11 workover jobs and the deployment of advanced artificial lift systems.
Revival of Rajian-3A Well
The first phase of the optimization program targeted the Rajian-3A well, which extends to a depth of 3,652 meters. This well had been temporarily suspended in 2020 due to formation challenges. OGDCL successfully revived the well by completing it with an Electrical Submersible Pump (ESP) in the Chorgali-Sakessar and Tobra formations. This innovative approach restored production at the well, increasing its output to 1,000 BPD.
Future Optimization Plans
With the optimization program for the remaining 10 wells underway, OGDCL expects a further boost in production from the Rajian field. The company’s Rig N-4, which has been deployed for the program, will remain at the site for the duration of the operations.
OGDCL has assured shareholders that the anticipated outcomes of the optimization program will be shared upon completion. The initiative underscores the company’s commitment to maximizing asset potential, improving operational efficiency, and creating value for stakeholders.
Strengthening Pakistan’s Energy Sector
This accomplishment highlights OGDCL’s pivotal role in enhancing Pakistan’s energy landscape and solidifies its position as a leader in the hydrocarbon sector.
