The Administrator General Zakat has announced the Nisab for Zakat in Pakistan at Rs. 179,689 for the Zakat year 1445-46 AH, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety. This marks an increase from the previous year’s Nisab, which was Rs. 135,179.
As per the notification, no Zakat deductions will be made at source if the balance in an account falls below Rs. 179,689 on the first day of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak, 1446 AH. The first day of Ramazan, which has been designated as the “Deduction Date,” is expected to fall on March 1 or 2, 2025, depending on the sighting of the moon.
Zakat will be deducted from Savings Bank Accounts, Profit and Loss Sharing Accounts, and other similar accounts with balances equal to or exceeding the Nisab amount. However, customers who have submitted Zakat exemption certificates will not face any deductions.
The Ministry has directed all Zakat Collection and Controlling Agencies (ZCCAs) to ensure compliance with the notification and deduct Zakat accordingly. Agencies are also required to submit a copy of the return on Form CZ-08 (A&B) to the Ministry immediately after depositing the collected Zakat into the Central Zakat Account (CZ-08) maintained by the State Bank of Pakistan.
Zakat applies to savings accounts and financial products managed by banks, asset management companies, and other financial institutions.
