The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an urban flood alert for several major cities in Pakistan, warning residents of potential flooding due to heavy rainfall expected between June 25 and July 1. The alert affects cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, and Muzaffarabad.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, thunderstorms and intense downpours are anticipated across various regions over the next five days. The NDMA has advised residents in the affected areas to take precautionary measures to ensure their safety.
The forecast also indicates thunderstorms in parts of Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Hyderabad, Karachi, Tharparkar, Mirpurkhas, Thatta, and Badin from June 25 to 28.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, areas such as Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Kohat, Kohistan, Khyber, Kurram, Mansehra, Nowshera, Malakand, Abbottabad, Bannu, Buner, Hazara, Peshawar, Swabi, and Swat are expected to experience similar weather conditions through July 1.
Additionally, thunderstorms are likely in Gilgit-Baltistan, affecting regions including Astore, Skardu, Hunza, Shigar, Diamer, Nagar, Ghizer, and Ghanche.
The NDMA has also warned of possible landslides in the mountainous areas of Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Residents are urged to stay away from weak structures, trees, electric poles, and billboards during storms, and to park vehicles in safe areas to avoid potential damage. Visibility may decrease during storms, heightening the risk of accidents.
