Minister of State for IT and Telecommunications, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, has stated that all social media platforms remain accessible and dismissed the notion of controlling them through a firewall as mere speculation.
Speaking to journalists at the Parliament House, she described the idea of regulating social media content via a firewall as impractical.
She stressed that all social media platforms are operational and that unnecessary controversies are being stirred up.
Addressing recent developments with X (formerly Twitter), she clarified that the platform, like all others, must adhere to Pakistani laws. She noted that if the government intended to ban platforms for non-compliance with local laws, they would have targeted TikTok and Facebook instead of X, highlighting that TikTok has a 95% compliance rate with local regulations.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja also mentioned that Facebook complies with local laws and that X is expected to do the same. However, she avoided giving a definitive answer when questioned about the potential installation of a firewall.
