The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of windstorms and rain-thunderstorms, with occasional heavy downpours and hail, across the upper and central regions of the country this week. The weather system is expected to bring intermittent rain and thunderstorms from the evening of May 27th through May 31st, with occasional gaps.
According to the Met Office, moist currents are continuously penetrating the upper and central parts of Pakistan, while a fresh westerly wave is likely to enter the upper regions on May 28th. This combination is set to trigger widespread weather activity in several areas.
Regions likely to be affected include Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, and a wide swath of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including cities such as Lahore, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Peshawar, Swat, and Abbottabad. The forecast also covers parts of Balochistan and southern Punjab, including Zhob, D.G. Khan, Multan, and Bahawalpur, where light to moderate rain-thunderstorms are expected from May 27th to 30th.
The Met Office has warned that windstorms, dust-thunderstorms, hail, and lightning could damage loose structures such as electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, particularly in the upper and central regions, including Islamabad.
Farmers are advised to plan their crop activities in light of the forecast, while the general public, travelers, and tourists are urged to exercise caution during the period of unsettled weather.
Authorities have also issued advisories for residents to stay updated on the latest weather developments and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety.
