The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has increased the price of single-phase smart electricity meters to Rs. 17,700, significantly raising connection costs for new consumers.
According to details shared by LESCO, the revised pricing reflects an increase of nearly Rs. 6,000 per meter, adding to the financial burden on households applying for new electricity connections or upgrading existing meters.
The updated rate applies to single-phase smart meters, which are being introduced as part of the power sector’s ongoing digital transformation aimed at improving billing accuracy, reducing electricity theft, and enabling remote monitoring of consumption.
With the new revision, applicants seeking fresh electricity connections will now have to pay substantially higher upfront installation charges.
The price hike is expected to impact domestic consumers the most.
Energy sector observers on X say higher equipment costs may slow adoption unless financing or installment options are introduced for consumers.
