In a recent meeting of the Lahore Coordination Committee, chaired by Lahore Divisional Commissioner Zaid Bin Maqsood, several initiatives were announced to address traffic congestion, encroachments, air quality, and other urban challenges in the city. Starting October 25, a complete ban will be enforced on the entry of vehicles and trolleys carrying uncovered sand and dust into Lahore.
This measure aims to combat dust pollution, with both government and private construction sites set to undergo inspections to ensure compliance with environmental standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Lahore Environment Department is taking stringent actions to control fugitive dust in the city.
The commissioner highlighted the establishment of pilot projects at 13 strategic locations across Lahore, where traffic intervention and engineering measures will be implemented. Officers will be stationed at these sites according to specific schedules to ensure effective management. The locations include Data Darbar, Urdu Bazaar, Sabzi Mandi, Ram Gadh, Abid Market, Chaburji, Railway Station, Kotwali, Nawan Kot, Green Town, Kahna Bazaar, and Bhatha Chowk.
Lepark Company is conducting surveys to identify parking solutions near these areas and will propose alternative parking options. Personnel at the camps will focus on eliminating traffic obstructions and removing encroachments from roads and intersections. Additionally, environmental teams will monitor air quality at various times throughout the day, with a comprehensive strategy to be developed based on their findings.
The performance of camp personnel will be subject to random checks to ensure accountability and effectiveness. The meeting was attended by key officials, including DG LDA Tahir Farooq, DC Lahore Syed Musa Raza, CTO Lahore Amara Athar, and representatives from the Traffic Police, Punjab Safe City Authority, and CM Roadmap Team.
