The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced the arrival of a rain-bearing system set to enter the country tomorrow, bringing showers to several regions, including Lahore and much of Punjab. According to the forecast, Lahore and its surrounding areas are likely to experience rain on January 4, with an increased chance of rainfall extending into January 5. Most districts in Punjab are also expected to receive rain during this period.
The incoming weather system is expected to intensify the cold, with temperatures in Lahore dropping further. The city’s minimum temperature was recorded at 6°C, while the maximum is expected to reach around 15°C. The colder conditions will also lead to severe fog, particularly during the mornings and evenings, creating hazardous travel conditions. Poor visibility has already resulted in the closure of several motorways, and the fog is expected to persist for the next few days.
Residents of Lahore and other cities in Punjab have been advised to prepare for colder temperatures and potential disruptions to daily activities due to the rain and fog. The PMD has also warned of travel challenges caused by the weather.
Meanwhile, the first snowfall of the new year in Gilgit-Baltistan and the upper Neelum Valley has further intensified the cold in the region. The snowfall has exacerbated travel difficulties for residents and tourists, with the PMD issuing a travel advisory urging people to avoid visiting upper areas of Gilgit-Baltistan. Despite earlier alerts, the skies remain clear in Murree and Galiyat, though the first snowfall of the winter season has already caused travel disruptions in these areas as well.
The PMD has forecast more snowfall in the coming days and continues to advise caution for those planning to travel to affected regions.
