The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a one-month exemption from schedule tax and stand tax for the transport sector in an effort to reduce passenger fares and provide relief to commuters.

The decision was taken during a video-link meeting chaired by Peshawar Division Commissioner and Regional Transport Authority Chairman Riaz Khan Mehsud.

Under the directive, the tax waiver will apply across all districts of the province for one month. Transport operators have been instructed to transfer the full financial benefit to passengers through reduced fares.

Authorities have also ordered strict monitoring to ensure compliance. Three assistant commissioners will be deployed in each district to check fares at transport terminals and along major highways, while deputy commissioners have been directed to personally oversee enforcement operations.

Transporters have been told to display government-approved fare lists prominently on the front of vehicles so passengers can easily verify official rates.

The measures follow recent inspections carried out by the commissioner at passenger terminals, GT Road and motorway routes in Peshawar, with officials aiming to ensure uniform implementation of reduced fares across the province and prevent overcharging.
